Glee Mysteries 48: “I’m from a part of town called Lima Heights Adjacent, you know where that is Poppin’ Fresh? It’s on the wrong side of the tracks” – In Silly Love Songs Santana reveals that she lives in a part of town called Lima Heights Adjacent, which she describes as being on the wrong side of the tracks, implying it’s a poor and crime ridden area – This is backed up by Santana saying “That’s how we do it in Lima Heights!” after engaging in a fight with Lauren and when she states “Do you know what goes down in Lima Heights Adjacent? Bad things!” in New York – The picture she paints is clear, Lima Heights Adjacent is probably a poor, crime ridden and violent part of Lima.

However earlier, in Britney/Brittany, she claimed “My dad’s a doctor, and not a tooth doctor, a real one, he like, went to college or something. Which means I have a killer health care plan that pretty much pays for everything” – So how is it possible that she supposedly lives in an implied poor (/violent/crime ridden) area of town even though her father apparently brings in a fair bit of money – Santana established that her parents are still together in I Kissed A Girl, so it’s not as if he’s the wealthy one and she and her mother are living poorly – Is her dad an actual doctor? Her line that he went ‘to collage or something’ could imply he’s not a real or fully qualified doctor, but if that was the case how does she have such a good health care plan, one which pays for everything? I doubt that’s something she could lie about for an extended period of time without getting caught. 

So that leaves us with the conclusion that she’s lying about being from Lima Heights Adjacent, she’s probably not lying about what the area’s like because I’m sure if that was the case someone would have pointed out that the area isn’t bad by now – So if she’s lying about where she’s from then how has nobody found out she isn’t actually from there? Or maybe her dad really is a doctor and she does actually live in Lima Heights Adjacent, but if that’s the case, then why? Surely they can afford to live somewhere nicer, and I doubt she and her entire family wouldn’t try and push for them to move somewhere better if the area’s that bad.

So what is it? Is she lying about where she lives? Is she lying about her dad being a doctor? Or is her dad a doctor, just not a licensed or fully qualified one? Or is it that her dad actually is a doctor but she still lives in Lima Heights Adjacent anyway? And if she does, why? Surely they can afford to move somewhere else, or is there something which is draining a lot of their finances on a regular basis which would make saving/having enough money to move impossible? Explain Glee, explain.

My guess is Student Loans.  There are plenty of doctors who live in poor communities because they are so far in debt from Student Loans. That’s just what I think.
